You might be wondering why I draw the same fishes every time I got to the aquarium. It is simple, they are the slowest moving and are the easiest to draw.

Phil Hale study I did for warm ups today and zoo sketches I did a few days ago.

Frankenstein Sample

This is a sample piece I did for someone who needs icons done for a slot machine game. So the final image for this would be much smaller. I think I may have gone more "realistic" than what he was looking for. I will find out in a few days. Image took about 3 hours, sketch to finish.

More Aquarium Sketches.

Went to the aquarium again today. I did these ones in ink. I think they look a lot better than the pencil sketches. I really love drawing the eels, they have so much character to them.

Aquarium and Zoo Sketches

Some sketches I did at the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla a few days ago and sketches from the San Diego Zoo that I did today. I wanted to draw the tigers, they were right near the glass, but there were too many people taking pictures of their kids next to the tigers. Next time I will have to go earlier.

Loomis Head Studies

Here are some head studies I did from Andrew Loomis. There are a few placement issues in the drawings, but they came out ok. I was mostly studying the way he describes form, not that that is an excuse for drawing issues.

Paint Study of Clouds

Here is a little digital paint study I did of some storm clouds at sunset that I took a picture of when I was on vacation. About an hour and a half.

Geist: The Sin-Eaters

Geist: The Sin-Eaters officially released today so I can now show the rest of the art work for it. I was really happy with the way these turned out and had a blast creating them. If I get more black and white work from White Wolf, this is probably the style I will do my pieces in.

Skull Painting

Here is a skull I painted yesterday. A little more than 2 hours. Just trying to practice as much painting as I can so I can feel more comfortable painting my illustrations. I do like the forms and structural feel of the skull, just wished the background was not so blue. I guess he is a patriotic skull.

Rose Paintings.

I did these 2 paintings for my cousins, one is getting married this weekend and the other got married 2 years ago, but I didn't have a painting for her at the time. I also did these 2 paintings because I haven't oil painted in awhile and needed some practice before I start painting in Meadow's class.

Life Drawings

Here are a few life drawings I did at the Friday workshop at Watts. The one floating face that is a study I did from Henry Yan's book.

CHOW 162 - The Bogeyman

My idea for the bogeyman was a crazy old man that haunted kids for their eyes. Looking for the perfect match to replace his missing eye. He is also infested with bugs, being a dirty old man.

Geist: The Sin-Eaters Preview

I recently finished 4 illustrations for an upcoming World of Darkness book called Geist: The Sin-Eaters coming out in August. One of my pieces got used in a marketing contest where people can make flash videos out of some of the art from the book. One of my pieces was used for the contest so I can show it now.

CHOW 161-The City

This weeks Chow was the create a city into a character. I chose to do San Diego. I tried to incorporate different types of people that you might find out here. Most of this is influenced from the area I live in, Pacific Beach.

Anime Sketches.

I have been doing freelance work for White Wolf for over 2 years I think. All the work I have done for them has been vampires or some sort of horror. Yesterday I wrote to the AD I always work with asking if the AD in charge of Exalted, another RPG White Wolf makes, but this one is more cartoony/anime like. Now I haven't drawn anime in years, I used to draw it all the time in high school and college, though I wasnt very good at it then. So I did these sample sketches. First sketch I just finished, and the 2nd I did yesterday for warm up, a copy from Satoshi Urushihara. As I was writing this, I just got emailed back to do some interior work. Damn that was fast. Anyways the point I was trying to make with this post for younger artists, if there is anyone out there that actually reads my blog, is that it is always a good idea to do sample pieces if there is a certain company that you want to work for that does specific work but your portfolio doesnt represent that style or genre. I am working on a sample piece for Warmachine, I think their stuff looks fun and I want to illustrate for them. I plan on finishing this piece before I send them my work to show that I can draw and paint their characters.

Characters of the Week

I have been doing character of the week on conceptart.org and these are 2 characters from the last 2 weeks. I will post the finished renderings hopefully sometime next week.
